Over the last fortnight we’ve been introducing members of the JL Dental Care team here on our blog. Today we meet Dr Jonny Lightstone, who tells us more about himself.
“I’m often asked what’s my favourite part about being a dentist, and the answer is very simple. I want to help every patient have a healthy smile for life, and one which they are confident with. I think this is the reason two of my favouite treatments are Invisalign and composite bonding. They are both minimally invasive yet can offer dramatic results.
Over the last few years there has been a surge in the number of adults looking to improve their smile and I think it’s fairly obvious that this is mainly because of social media and the fact we’re all sharing more photographs of ourselves than ever before.
More recently we have also had the ‘zoom effect’ which Jonathan spoke about in his last newsletter. Since the Covid-19 pandemic started many people have been spending significant periods of time on video calls and are more aware of their smile than ever before. When anyone asks me about improving their smile, I always want to offer a solution which protects the health of their teeth first and foremost, which is why the treatments mentioned above are two which I carry out most often.
Invisalign uses almost invisible aligners to gradually move the teeth if any are misaligned or crooked and works in a matter of months. At an initial consultation we can project what the final result will look like and how long it will take. Composite bonding may be a term you’re unfamiliar with, but it’s very similar to a veneer yet much less invasive. We use the same tooth coloured material which is used in fillings (what was often referred to as white fillings) and can be used to repair chipped teeth, fill gaps or to fix discolouration.
As this is a short piece I’ll stop taking about dentistry now and tell you about me. I’m a local lad, having been brought up in Edgware and currently living in Bushey with my wife Amy and two children. Whilst the last year has been extremely difficult, the one upside is that I got to spend a lot of time with my family, and that opportunity may never happen again. It also gave me an opportunity to start running again, something I was never able to find the time to do.
Food and friends are two of my favourite things in life and what I am most looking forward to in the coming weeks is getting back to dining out and socialising”.
